Why Leaders Should Create Virtuous Laws for Themselves to Achieve Optimal Success in Their Personal and Professional Lives
This morning, as I performed my daily reading, I came across a passage from Benjamin Franklin, which described his personal philosophy and virtues.
He contended, it was best for him to follow a set of rules to guide his behavior and interactions with others. Those virtues included:
TEMPERANCE: Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.
SILENCE: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
ORDER: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
RESOLUTION: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
FRUGALITY: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself, that is, waste nothing.
INDUSTRY: Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
SINCERITY: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
JUSTICE: Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
MODERATION: Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
CLEANLINESS: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes, or habitation.
TRANQUILITY: Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents, common or unavoidable.
CHASTITY: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another’s peace or reputation.
HUMILITY: Imitate Jesus and Socrates.
When examining history, we often look with wonder at individuals who had less than we do today, yet made extraordinary progress that propelled our nation forward.
To some, such actions might seem supernatural. But to those of us who understand the power of virtue, spiritual laws, and Kingdom concepts, well, it all just makes sense.
Leaders who develop a personal philosophy based on key virtues find themselves in the top echelon of their industries. Sure, there are some people who use nefarious tactics to acquire power or wealth or prestige. But such tactics always result in their demise.
The leaders who build legacy and create history are the ones who ground themselves in spiritual truths, thereby learning to control their minds, their impulses, their desires, and their individual power. They practice self-discipline and friendly cooperation with others. They lead simple, yet extraordinary lives that place them above the crowds.
In essence, they become the leading experts in the social, political, or economic spheres. And they do so with poise and quiet power.
When working with my leader-clients, I teach them to develop their own personal philosophy based on virtues that are most important to them and their fields. Among these virtues are the 10 spiritual laws of Conscious Conservatism:
The Law of Love | The first spiritual law that governs our human behavior and interaction
The Law of Mercy and Grace | The spiritual law that causes us to empathize with those whom God brings our way
The Law of Reconciliation | The spiritual law that enables us to see others through the eyes of the Spirit
The Law of Truth and Justice | The spiritual law that compels us to judge righteously
The Law of Faith | The spiritual law that serves as the currency of Heaven
The Law of Attraction | The spiritual law that enables us to draw unto us that which we see by faith
The Law of Action | The spiritual law that causes the supernatural to manifest in the natural
The Law of Thanksgiving | The spiritual law that opens more doors of opportunity
The Law of Forgiveness | The spiritual law that allows us to release those who offend us while keeping us in God's grace
The Law of Sowing and Reaping | The spiritual law that compels us to treat others as we want to be treated
When my leader-clients apply these laws in their personal lives, their ideal clients, customers, donors, fans, and readers become addicted to their thought leadership.
Why?
Because good leadership is in high demand.
There is no substitute for it. The people within each industry desire it; and for the rising leaders who accept the call, they will always receive bountiful rewards for their leadership abilities.
Today, consider this lesson in creating your own personal philosophy. What values are important to you? What virtues do you desire in leadership? How will you practice these laws in your own life so they reflect in your nonprofit, ministry, business, or political platform?
Until next time, Beloved, be blessed.
And as always, let’s grow together!
